A Deep-Rooted Legacy in Sled Dog Medicine
Since our founding, Ravenwood has been a cornerstone of Alaska’s sled dog community. Our team’s commitment runs deep and spans generations of dedicated veterinary support.
Dr. Wagnon, Ravenwood’s founder, served as the race veterinarian for the Fur Rendezvous Open World Championship Sled Dog Race in Anchorage from 1985 to 2020, establishing a foundation of excellence in sled dog care. In 2021, Dr. Merrigan proudly stepped into that role as the official sprint race veterinarian, continuing Ravenwood’s close relationship with the racing community. Dr. Wilson plays an essential role as well, overseeing drug testing protocols to ensure safe and fair competition among racing sled dogs.
Each year, our dedicated team volunteers at the event, offering on-site medical assessments and support for any sled dogs in need of care along the Avenue. This long-standing involvement reflects our deep respect for Alaska’s mushing tradition and allows us to deliver experienced, trustworthy care grounded in decades of hands-on expertise.
